Multi-cuisine kitchen, open around the clock
Three branches. Eight thousand customers a day. Swahili dishes, nyama choma, pilau, breakfast and catering.
What guests say
"The chicken was proper kienyeji. The managu tasted like someone had actually remembered where vegetables come from, and the brown ugali was spot on."
"Their pilau ya kuku is proper. Not the rushed kind. You can taste the whole spice and the rice is the right colour. I come back every Friday."
"Afrikaana is the only place in Eldoret I trust for nyama choma at night. The service is fast, the meat is always fresh, and they never close."

From the journal
All posts →How we cook pilau, and why we never rush it
The rice goes in dry and browns in the oil before a drop of water touches it.
Kienyeji chicken is tougher. That is the point.
Free-range chicken takes longer to cook and costs more. People order it anyway.
Market mornings: what we buy and when
Sukuma wiki, managu, tomatoes and avocado come in before six.
Order in three steps
Start with the menu →Pick your dishes
Browse the full menu, open any dish to read what is in it, then add it to your order. Add as many as you like.
Your order goes straight to the counter on WhatsApp, with the items, quantities and total already written out for you.
Collect or get it delivered
Pick it up at any of the three branches, or have it brought to you inside Eldoret town. Pay by M-Pesa, cash or card.
Open when the town has closed
Two of our three branches never close. Night shift finishing at 4am, a bus pulling into the stage at midnight, or an early start before a long drive: there is always a kitchen on and a grill still hot.
Breakfast begins at 5am with chai and mandazi. The charcoal runs late. The menu does not shrink after dark, and the price on the board is the price you pay.

All branches →Oginga Odinga Street, opposite Equity Main Branch. Our main kitchen and the busiest counter in the group.
Off Kenyatta Street, behind Fims Building. Closest to the matatu stage, and the easiest stop for a quick plate.
Near the Easy Coach stage. Busy with travellers through the night, so the grill stays on till morning.
Packed so it still tastes right
Rice goes in lined containers so it does not steam itself soft. Grills travel separately from the kachumbari. Sauces are sealed and packed on top, never underneath.
Delivery runs inside Eldoret town. Outside the CBD we will tell you the charge before we send anything, and we would rather decline an order than send you cold food.
